Stoney-Disston Architects is an AIA award winning, design-oriented firm dedicated to helping clients create their dream space. SDA was founded in 1999 with a  vision of creating efficient, sustainable, and beautiful buildings that fit both the site and the surrounding environment. Since its founding, the firm has completed new homes, renovations, additions, and commercial work throughout Connecticut, Long Island and the greater New York area. SDA also maintains national presence throughout the Northeastern United States and in Nevada and Tennessee.  In addition, SDA, has an international presence in Florence, Italy.

Over the past 20 years one constant has been to listen to our clients as we help make their design dreams come true. We aim to create spaces that inspire and reflect the kind of world our clients want to inhabit. As the firm has grown, we have begun to explore the way humans live on this planet and how we can lessen our impact on the environment. We orient the project to take maximum advantage of the sun and the prevailing breezes. Any site resources are utilized. We work with the beauty and efficiency of nature. We source materials that are renewable or sustainably produced and we seek to use materials with low toxicity. If your project is a renovation, we minimize waste by reusing or recycling as much of the existing material as we can. Wherever possible we aim for efficiency; of space, of materials, of cost. The final product will be an environment that’s sunny and beautiful, fits into the site, and is cost efficient to run and maintain.

Jeanne Stoney, Principal

The daughter of a rocket scientist, Jeanne grew up in Texas in the shadow of the space program.  She was inspired by the single minded pursuit of the goal of reaching the moon and the engineers that made that happen. In college, she studied architecture and focused on designing things a little closer to home. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia. She went on to earn a Master degree in Architecture from Syracuse University where she earned the prestigious James Britton Jury Medal. After graduating, Jeanne spent the next two years teaching at Syracuse University’s Architecture Program in Florence and exploring Italian architecture and urban design. After working in New York City and Connecticut for large firms, Jeanne founded Stoney-Disston Architects in Connecticut in 1999. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is nationally certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board. She is currently licensed in the states of Connecticut and New York and does work nationally and internationally.
